If Jasprit Bumrah recovers in time for the competition, which starts on February 19, he can be included in India’s Champions Trophy roster.
According to ESPNcricinfo, Bumrah’s ailment that kept him from bowling on the fifth day of the Sydney Test was caused by stress. It is believed that Bumrah’s pain was caused by his exertion during the five Test matches in Australia, even though the initial set of testing did not find a stress fracture in his back. In the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, he bowled 151.2 overs in nine innings, claiming 32 wickets at an average of 13.06.
In light of this, the BCCI chose to let Bumrah rest for a minimum of five weeks, following which he would have another scan to ascertain
Bumrah’s match fitness will probably be put to the test on February 12 in the last ODI of the home series against England, if he is cleared of injury. The ICC must receive the final Champions Trophy squad by February 11.
Before the Champions Trophy starts on February 19, India will play three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) against England on February 6, 9, and 12. These will be their first ODIs since the August tour of Sri Lanka last year. India’s Champions Trophy campaign starts on February 20 against Bangladesh, followed by matches against Pakistan on February 23 and New Zealand on March 2. India is in Group A. India’s government forbade the team from traveling to Pakistan, thus they play all of their games in Dubai.
