In an emotional statement following her Oscar win, Zoe Saldana begs for forgiveness amid the Emilia Perez issue.
At the 2025 London Critics’ Circle Awards, Zoe Saldana, an Oscar nominee, urged audiences to be “abstract with your idea of redemption” after winning Best Supporting Actress.
Her choice of words coincides with Karla Sofia Gascon, her co-star in Emilia Perez, expressing regret for her previous social media statements that attacked George Floyd and Islam.
Saldana stated during the Mayfair, London, awards event that she didn’t anticipate receiving recognition, “especially now.”
“It is very challenging to believe in something with so much conviction that you are willing to go against the grain and sometimes the grain can betray you because the grain can tell you that it is the right path,” she stated.
“You believe in your heart, and you do it,” she added. And to believe in what you’re experiencing is, in my opinion, the path of an artist.
“If it originates from a place of love, purity, education, investigation, and hard work. Emilia had gotten rid of a lot of those items.
She urged the audience to “be abstract with your idea of redemption” after stating that they had created something “really beautiful”.
