Bollywood and regional actress, Urvashi Rautela recently found herself at the centre of controversy after making an insensitive remark about Saif Ali Khan’s knife attack that occurred in the wee hours of January 16, 2025. During a promotional interview, Urvashi unintentionally sparked outrage by flaunting her expensive gifts while commenting on the incident, which many perceived as tone-deaf.
Urvashi Rautela gets slammed for her insensitive comment on Saif Ali Khan’s stabbing incident
Urvashi, who is currently basking in the success of her latest Telugu film, Daaku Maharaj, recently sat for an interview with ANI to promote the film. Upon being asked to share her thoughts on the brutal attack on Saif Ali Khan, the actress quoted it as an ‘unfortunate incident’ and her focus shifted to her recent film’s success, which did not sit well with netizens. Urvashi was heard saying:
“It is very unfortunate. Daaku Maharaj ke Rs. 105 crore ke success ke baad, my mother… unhone ne mujhe gift ki diamond-studded Rolex and my father ne mujhe ye choti si mini-watch gift kari. Abhi humne 105 paar kar diya hai toh it’s just a gift, but then hum confident nahi feel karenge bahar openly. We cannot wear kuch bhi. Ek insecurity ho jati hai ki anybody can attack us toh woh bohot zyada unfortunate hai.”
Urvashi Rautela issues a public apology
Urvashi’s remarks drew widespread backlash on social media. Users criticised her for being “out of touch” and “delusional”. Acknowledging the flak, a few hours ago, Urvashi issued a statement on Instagram, apologising for her remarks and offering support to Saif Ali Khan and his family. The post read:
“Dear Saif Ali Khan sir, I hope this message finds you in strength. I am writing with a deep sense of regret and heartfelt apology. Until now, I was completely unaware of the intensity of the situation you are facing. I feel ashamed that I allowed myself to be consumed by the excitement surrounding Daaku Maharaaj and the gifts I was receiving, instead of pausing to acknowledge and understand what you are going through. Please accept my sincerest apologies for being so ignorant and insensitive. ”
Urvashi further added how she admired Saif’s resilience in facing such a challenging time. For the unversed, Saif sustained six stab wounds from a burglar who invaded his Bandra apartment late into the night. Urvashi wrote:
“Now that I know the gravity of your case, I am deeply moved and want to extend my unwavering support. Your grace, dignity, and resilience during such a challenging time are truly admirable, and I have nothing but immense respect for your strength. If there is any way I can be of help or support, please do not hesitate to let me know. Once again, I am truly sorry, sir, for my earlier indifference. I promise to do better and to always prioritize compassion and understanding in the future.”
Saif Ali Khan’s health update
Saif Ali Khan is currently recovering at Lilavati Hospital after being stabbed six times by an intruder during an attempted burglary at his Bandra residence. The actor underwent emergency surgery and narrowly escaped life-threatening injuries. Doctors have assured that Saif is stable and expected to be discharged soon. Meanwhile, Urvashi seems to have deleted her apology post.
