Scott Derrickson is the director and Zach Dean is the writer of the 2025 American science fiction romance action movie The Gorge. Starring in it are Sigourney Weaver, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Miles Teller. Two skilled shooters, played by Teller and Taylor-Joy, are tasked with protecting a deep canyon without knowing what is inside. In 2020, Zach Dean’s spec script for The Gorge was selected for inclusion on the Black List of the most popular unproduced screenplays. Scott Derrickson and Skydance Media were scheduled to direct and produce the movie in March 2022. Miles Teller was hired in August to both star and executive produce. Apple Original Films signed on in October, and Anya Taylor joined the cast. In March 2023, Sigourney Weaver joined the cast.
As a chess prodigy in The Queen’s Gambit for Taylor-Joy, the movie features a moment when the characters connect across the gorge while playing chess and pounding on makeshift drum sets. This scene brings back memories of the actors’ classic breakout performances.
