Donald Trump’s desire to win the Nobel Peace Prize is well known. However, the man preventing him from winning the prize is also the one who could assist him in doing so.
During a recent trip to Washington, the Israeli prime minister nominated Trump for the award; nevertheless, Netanyahu’s recent actions in Gaza and Syria caused the president to call on him to restrain his behavior.
But why now? First of all, due to Syria.
More than 1,000 people have been killed and numerous others injured in tribal conflict between the Bedouins and the Druze minority group in the southern city of Sweida.
Because a sizable section of the Druze population resides in the occupied Golan Heights and is devoted to Netanyahu, he has proclaimed himself the guardian of the Druze across the area. The Druze are IDF members as well.
He attacked military headquarters in the capital, Damascus, which is close to the Presidential Palace, in addition to bombing the city of Sweida.
The violence was exacerbated when groups gathered in Sweida to assist in the battle against the tribe that demanded assistance from Israel.
The United States has mediated a tenuous truce and is currently supporting Syria’s new president, Ahmed al Sharaa.
