Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha’s rumoured relationship has raised many eyebrows. It is still one of the most controversial topics in Bollywood, and people still believe that she is madly in love with him. The speculations about their affair started on the sets of the film, Do Anjaane. Amitabh was already married, and Rekha got the status of the ‘other woman’.
Amitabh Bachchan has time and again called the reports baseless and has always denied having any kind of romantic involvement with Rekha. However, the actress has given subtle hints about her love for him. Many veteran stars have also stated that they spotted Amitabh and Rekha together, and one of them is Shatrughan Sinha.
Shatrughan Sinha blamed Rekha for creating a rift between him and Amitabh Bachchan
Did you know Shatrughan once blamed Rekha for causing a rift between him and Amitabh? For the unversed, Amitabh and Shatrughan ruled the silver screen in the 70s, but unfortunately, some misunderstanding happened between them, and the iconic duo stopped talking to one another. In his memoir, Anything But Khamosh: The Shatrughan Sinha Biography, the veteran actor spoke about his rivalry with Amitabh and stated that Amitabh couldn’t digest the love Shatrughan was getting.
In the same memoir, Shatrughan took a subtle dig at Rekha and blamed her for playing a crucial role in widening the rift between him and Amitabh. Penning the same, he mentioned:
“During Kaala Patthar, a heroine who was known to be very friendly with him, would visit him. She would come during Dostana also but not once would he bring her out and introduce her to any of us. In showbiz, everybody knew who was visiting whom. The media would immediately know if Reena was in my make-up room. Such things can never be hidden in our world.”
Shatrughan Sinha’s cold war with Rekha
In an interview with Zoom, Shatrughan Sinha opened up about his cold war with Rekha. He stated that his bond with Rekha was never harmonious, and they had constant arguments. It so happened that Shatrughan and Rekha had a disagreement, which led to a prolonged silence between the two, spanning more than two decades. Speaking about the same, he said:
“We had a difference of opinion over some silly issue. After that we didn’t speak to each other for more than twenty years. I did make digs about her. I shouldn’t have. To her credit, Rekha never retaliated. She is a very large-hearted generous woman.”
Shatrughan Sinha reconciled with Rekha with the help of his wife, Poonam Sinha
In the same interview, Shatrughan Sinha revealed that the intervention of his wife, Poonam Sinha, helped the former reconcile with Rekha. Since Poonam and Rekha used to be best friends, the cold war strained their friendship, so the former helped sort out the things between the estranged colleagues for her own selfish reasons. Talking about the same, Shatrughan said:
“It was none other than my better-half Shrimati Poonam Sinha. You see, Rekha and she were close friends. And my so-called cold war with Rekha was causing difficulties in my wife’s friendship with Rekha. She patched us up for her own selfish reason. And I happily agreed to let bygones be bygones.”
