After the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh took up a vital role for the monarchy, King Charles honored them with a special message.
On behalf of the queen, Prince Edward and Duchess Sophie concluded their royal trip in Nepal. They are now receiving a more prominent position in the royal family.
On Friday, Buckingham Palace released an update on the royal couple, revealing additional highlights from the momentous visit.
The message said, “The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh have been interacting with communities in Nepal, commemorating our common past and looking to the future.”
Before touring the “Living Mountain Lab” at the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development in Godawari, Their Royal Highnesses planted a magnolia tree in the Botanical Gardens. They witnessed directly how professionals are assisting Nepal and the larger Himalaya region in adapting to the climatic disaster there,” the Palace noted.
It went on to say, “Their Royal Highnesses met former Gurkhas and their families at the Gurkha Welfare Trust’s Area Welfare Centre in Kaski, learning about the facilities and care at the Residential Home.”
“The Duke and Duchess attended the Recruit Intake 2025 Attestation Parade in Pokhara, which honored the Gurkhas’ outstanding service in the British Army as well as the close, 200-year partnership between the UK and Nepal.”
