When I heard that Alisal Ranch was having a weekend long holiday workshop hosted by Nathan Turner – the celebrated interior designer, cookbook author and home chef – I couldn’t sign up fast enough! This would be my chance to learn holiday hosting tips and tricks from the master himself. I’ve had Nathan’s “I Love California” cookbook open on my kitchen island since I picked it up six months ago. I admit that sometimes I just sit and get lost in all of the beautiful pictures of the best places to visit in California, that he showcases in his book, but I’ve also tried my hand at re-creating a number of his recipes too – and boy were they delicious! This weekend was about more than just cooking though. It was about learning to entertain like a pro. Nathan showed us how to set up the perfect buffet table, how to make crown-pleasing appetizers (his Swedish meatballs are to die for!), how to accessorize a fresh holiday wreath to make your home more warm and inviting, how to style a dinner table with country glam decor (perfect for Alisal Ranch’s theme), and most importantly, how to work a room like a pro and make all your guests feel welcome and appreciated. I won’t just be taking away fabulous entertaining tips from this weekend, I’ll also have lifelong memories and new friendships. Needless to say, if you see a Nathan Turner workshop on the list of events at Alisal Ranch I highly recommend signing up!
