More than 100 people die of hunger in Gaza, including 80 children.

Palestinian officials have said that dozens of Palestinians are starving to death for the first time since the conflict in Gaza started in October 2023.

Officials estimate that at least 101 individuals, including 80 children, have perished from starvation during the fighting, the majority of them in recent weeks.

Antonio Guterres, the secretary-general of the United Nations, has called the situation in Gaza a “horror show” and stated that famine is calling on every door and that malnourishment is skyrocketing.

Latest updates on the Middle East

Israel has denied responsibility for food shortages and maintains control over all supplies entering Gaza.

Since Israel cut off all supplies in March and then lifted the blockade in May with new measures it claimed were necessary to stop aid from being diverted to militant groups, some food supplies in the Palestinian territory have run out.

Israel has accused the UN of failing to safeguard aid that it claims is pilfered by Hamas and other organizations. The combatants deny taking it.

‘There is nothing left’

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) has accused Israel of impeding its operations, claiming that its relief supplies in Gaza are entirely exhausted and that some of its employees are going hungry.

“We have distributed our final tent, food package, and relief supplies. The secretary-general of the council, Jan Egeland, stated, “There is nothing left.”

The NRC reported that it has been unable to deliver hundreds of truckloads of supplies, including food, sanitation, water, tents, and educational materials, into Gaza for the past 145 days.

A request for response was not immediately answered by Israeli officials or COGAT, the Israeli military aid coordination organization. Israel refutes claims that it is blocking help from getting to Gaza.
