Jackie Chan attributes his acquisition of the English language to country music.

The 71-year-old actor admitted on The Kelly Clarkson Show that he needed his dialogue coach to interpret for him when he first arrived in the US from Hong Kong because he had trouble understanding the directors on film sets.

Chan told Clarkson, “Because country songs [are] slow, I learn English in country songs.” The crowd cheered as he sang the well-known chorus of Willie Nelson’s timeless song “Always on My Mind.”

It was not just the audience’s reaction that left Clarkson speechless. “I’m sorry, I just got serenaded by Jackie Chan, that’s how I’m going to take this day away,” she said.

Chan appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show with Ben Wang and Ralph Macchio, who costarred with him in Karate Kid: Legends. In relation to his character’s journey in the well-known movie franchise, Macchio disclosed that he had reached his own milestone.

The actor said, “I did receive my black belt in karate, but it took me 41 years.”
