In an unusual diplomatic step, Donald Trump has formally accepted King Charles’ offer to make a state visit to the UK.
Trump will become the first elected leader in contemporary history to have a British monarch host two state visits.
During a White House news briefing, Prime Minister Keir Starmer personally presented the royal invitation, which Trump accepted right away.
Trump took tea with then-Prince Charles, attended a lavish dinner, and had a private lunch with Queen Elizabeth II on his last state visit in June 2019.
Trump’s second invitation is remarkable since, throughout Queen Elizabeth’s 70-year reign, only Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush were granted official state visits.
