Working on stage with her favorite musician, Lauryn Hill, was an incredible experience for Doechii.
On Saturday, March 9th, the singer of Denial Is a River performed a duet with Hill on his popular song Doo Wop (That Thing) during the Miami festival Jazz in the Gardens.
Before Doechii took the stage, the Ex-Factor singer told the audience, “I want to introduce y’all to another sister.”
The Anxiety hitmaker sent a heartfelt note for Hill on Instagram after the hugely successful performance.
“The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill was the first full-length album I ever listened to. For years, on my way to school, my mom would play it from beginning to end,” she started the caption.
“Imagining myself on stage, I would perform your songs as though I had written them. My passion for music and my desire to compose raps grew with each song. “Don’t be a hard rock when you truly are a jewel” is my favorite line from Doo Wop, and it has always resonated with me whenever I’ve wanted to “get even” or harden my heart toward people who have mistreated me.”
