After getting minimize the roots, gently pry the clump out of the bottom. It’s simpler to separate the clump in case you minimize off the underside “level” of the foundation ball to make it flat. At this level, use the spade to chop off any extra soil that’s on the clump. Some perennials have dense roots and take some work to get out, whereas others are extra delicate and would require some care to not break them aside as you carry them.
