Dame Judi Dench provides an update on her eye health.

Dench disclosed that she can no longer leave the house alone due to her deteriorating vision.

In an interview with Trinny Woodall’s Fearless podcast, the 90-year-old Oscar-winning actress, who first discussed her fight with age-related macular degeneration (AMD) in 2012, talked candidly about the difficulties she confronts.

“Somebody will always be with me,” Dench said, describing the manner in which her illness has affected her day-to-day existence. “Now that I can’t see, I have to [have someone].” And I’ll trip over something or bump over anything.”

More than 700,000 people in the UK suffer with AMD, the primary cause of vision loss. The disorder impairs the macula, the area of the eye that provides sharp center vision, making it challenging to read and identify faces.

Even though AMD doesn’t cause complete blindness, it makes daily tasks much more difficult.

Dench acknowledged that she gets nervous before going out or leaving her house.

“I usually get anxious before an event. I don’t know why. That’s not something I’m really good at. Absolutely not. Now I wouldn’t be either. Thankfully, I don’t have to be right now since I act like I don’t have eyesight,” she remarked.

The actress, who is most known for playing M in the nine James Bond movies, also considered how her deteriorating vision has changed the way she approaches her career and public appearances.
