Universal Pictures announced Christopher Nolan’s impending epic The Odyssey at CinemaCon, with Jim Orr, the studio’s president of domestic theatrical distribution, hailing Nolan’s “visionary take” on the famous story.
“We know this film will be a once-in-a-generation cinematic masterpiece that Homer himself would be very proud of,” Orr informed the audience.
The picture, billed as a “mythic action epic,” will be shot utilizing cutting-edge IMAX film technology, bringing Homer’s seminal saga to IMAX theaters for the first time.
The Odyssey stars Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, and Lupita Nyong’o, among others.
Orr praised Nolan’s impressive cast, stating he “assembled a staggering all-star cast.” The film depicts King Odysseus’ (Damon) 10-year journey return to Ithaca following the Trojan War, which was fraught with obstacles and divine intervention.
The Odyssey, Nolan’s follow-up to his blockbuster best picture winner Oppenheimer, is slated to be released on July 17, 2026.
