Due to a documentary that contained claims of sexual assault, Chris Brown has filed a $500 million defamation lawsuit.
The American musician revealed information in a social media message from his attorneys announcing that he was suing Warner Bros. and producers Ample, among others.
It follows the publication of the documentary Chris Brown: A History of Violence in October of last year.
Producers are accused in the complaint, which Sky News saw, of broadcasting a show that was “full of lies and deception” after being “provided proof that their information was false”.
In the court petition, Brown’s attorneys state that claims made by a woman known in the documentary as Jane Doe have been “discredited over and over.”
Brown, who is 35, has “never been found guilty of any sex related crime… but this documentary states in every available fashion that he is a serial rapist and sexual abuser” , they claim.
According to the complaint, the singer has openly admitted his “past mistakes” and addressed them in his 2017 documentary, Chris Brown: Welcome To My Life.
“This case is about protecting the truth,” Brown’s lawyer Levi McCathern stated in a social media statement. “Undermining Mr. Brown’s ten-year efforts to rebuild his life,” he said, the documentary contained “false and defamatory” facts.
