The organization and renowned ex-NBA coach/current CEO Pat Riley have reached an agreement that would allow Kansas City to produce “Three Peat” memorabilia if it wins Super Bowl LIX, an attorney for Riley told cllct on Tuesday.

The particular terms of the agreement remain unknown, as Kansas City seeks to become the first club to win three consecutive Super Bowls when it faces the Philadelphia Eagles.

While the Chiefs’ pursuit of a three-peat has been one of the NFL’s top themes this season, they’ve struggled to completely capitalize on the term “Three Peat.” Riley trademarked the word and five others related to it after he led the Lakers to their second consecutive championship in 1987-88.

Riley’s Lakers, like the Chiefs, returned to the championship round in their third season. However, they were swept by the Detroit Pistons in the 1989 NBA Finals.

Riley departed the Lakers in 1990 and went on to coach the New York Knicks and the Miami Heat. He never guided those clubs to three consecutive championships, but as president of the Heat, he came close to doing so. Miami won the 2012 and 2013 NBA Finals before losing the 2014 NBA Finals.
