Carol Vorderman rushed to hospital after painful fall left TV star unconscious: ‘I couldn’t sit up!’

Carol Vorderman has revealed that she was taken to hospital by ambulance in May following a frightening accident near her home.

The 65-year-old former Countdown presenter lost consciousness after stumbling over a tree root on a public footpath, leading to a rather painful fall.

Speaking to her Instagram followers, the television personality explained that she landed heavily on the tarmac surface and blacked out.

“I tripped, unconscious, hospital, concussion, massive dizziness,” she wrote alongside a video detailing her ordeal.

The broadcaster was transported to Bristol Royal Infirmary, where her son Cam later informed her that Europe’s hit song “Final Countdown” had been playing during the ambulance journey – something she found amusing given her television history.

Despite being discharged initially, Ms Vorderman’s condition deteriorated dramatically the next day when she found herself unable to sit upright and suffered relentless vomiting.

These alarming symptoms prompted an immediate return to Bristol Royal Infirmary, where medical staff conducted CT scans to assess her condition.

The aftermath of the fall left visible marks that kept her away from social media throughout June.

“Almost half of my face developing black eye and bruising (that’s why I wasn’t doing reels in June!!!)” she explained to followers.

The severe facial discolouration persisted for approximately three to four weeks before finally subsiding.

Following two to three weeks of recovery from the initial injuries, Ms Vorderman was left with persistent dizziness that left her unsteady on her feet and occasionally bumping into walls.

Seeking specialist help, she attended a concussion clinic that ordinarily treats professional athletes, where a therapist named Sophie conducted extensive assessments.

The diagnosis was Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV), a condition involving displaced crystals within the inner ear.

Sophie administered the Epley Technique, a procedure requiring rapid backward movements while seated.

“OMG it felt like I was falling off the edge of the earth!!!!” Ms Vorderman recalled of the intense experience.

The specialist held her steady until the overwhelming sensation passed after roughly a minute before repeating the process on the opposite side.

Following three sessions of the repositioning treatment, Ms Vorderman reported that 95 per cent of her dizziness had vanished completely.

She has now been discharged from the clinic’s care and has expressed her delight at the outcome.

The television star was careful to note that she was simply sharing her personal experience rather than offering medical guidance.

“I am not a doctor. I am not advising people about this, but I’m just telling you what’s happened to me,” she stated.

Supporters flooded her comments section with messages of encouragement.

“Hope you’re doing well now,” one fan penned alongside a love-heart emoji, while a second echoed: “Omg, thank goodness you’re back to normal now, and thanks for the tip about the Epley technique, never heard of it so good to know there’s something that helps.”
