Britney Spears shared a lengthy, emotional note on Friday, saying she feels she “failed as a mother” after one of her sons told her he doesn’t believe in God.
Taking to X, the 44-year-old singer posted an old photo of her sons, Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19, on the beach.
In her message, she began by sharing the context behind the photo, saying she learned five years ago that her parents had taken her sons to the beach without telling her. She said this made her feel “demoralised” and left out, adding that she cried for two months afterward.
Spears also reflected on her past, saying she felt she never got the chance to fully be herself, even though she considers herself very intelligent.
At another point she shared her personal thoughts about faith, saying she believes there is “a Holy Spirit that sits high in the kingdom of heaven.”
“I’ve been there I’ve felt it,” she declared, before referring to herself as an “angel.”
“I firmly believe I am an angel, and it hurts,” she added. “Time is in a different realm when you’re an angel… I miss the excitement in my eves being alive.”
She ended her message by saying she wants to reconnect with her spirituality and find excitement in life again, like she did during trips to Mexico in the past.
“I want to get closer to God and get my heart in its most beautiful, spiritual way and have dreams again like I did when I used to go to Mexico!!!” she concluded.
Spears has faced a number of public struggles over the years. She was under a court-ordered conservatorship for 13 years, which ended in 2021. Years later, she was arrested for a DUI in March 2026 and went to a treatment program shortly after, which she completed in April.
In May, she accepted a legal agreement requiring her to attend an alcohol education class and complete a year of informal probation.
