Anthony Mackie on ‘The Studio’ nomination.

During his recent visit on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Anthony Mackie brought humor and candor to the discussion, which began with a celebration of his recent Emmy nomination.

While Mackie was on set when the news broke, his initial response was influenced by his prior experiences. Mackie received the nomination for his guest appearance in Seth Rogen’s comedy series The Studio on Apple TV+.

“I’m on set. and I turn to see that everyone is saying, “Congratulations!” “Oh, what white dude got nominated?” I thought. Mackie made a joke.

“Because in terms of nominations and victories, I am the white dude legend.”

I brought fame to Ryan Gosling. I brought fame to Jeremy Renner. I brought fame to Bryan Cranston. Ron Howard is suddenly famous because of me! I’m the guy to call if you want to be nominated. Do you understand what I mean?

The remark was a direct reference to the trend of being ignored while his white co-stars receive praise from critics that he has witnessed throughout his career.

He costarred with Ryan Gosling in Half Nelson (2006), which earned Gosling a nomination for an Oscar.

He costarred with Jeremy Renner in The Hurt Locker, which won best picture and earned Renner an Oscar nomination for best actor.

In HBO’s All the Way, Mackie played Martin Luther King Jr. against Bryan Cranston, who was nominated for an Emmy for his portrayal of President Lyndon B. Johnson.

Mackie most recently collaborated on The Studio with Ron Howard. But this time, he also received the recognition at last.

Along with Dave Franco, Bryan Cranston, and Ron Howard, he is now one of four Studio guest actors nominated for an Emmy.

With 23 nominations, the most ever for a rookie comedy, and tying the record for the most nominations for a single season of a comedy series, the show itself created Emmy history.

Although Mackie’s appearance on the show was intended to promote season 2 of Twisted Metal, it is evident that The Studio finds this acknowledgment to be very significant.
