The Los Angeles County District Attorney has denied Lyle and Erik Menendez a second trial after they were imprisoned for 35 years for the shotgun murder of their parents.

Nathan Hochman, however, stated that a resentencing bid that may result in their release had not yet been decided.

The brothers were given a life sentence without the possibility of release after being found guilty of the 1989 murders of their mother, Kitty Menendez, and their father, Jose, an entertainment mogul.

New proof of their father’s sexual assault is the main topic of their most recent freedom petition.

Mr. Hochman, however, questioned the evidence and said it had no bearing on the case.

“Sexual abuse in this situation may have been a motivation for Erik and Lyle to do what they did, but it does not constitute self-defence.”

Additionally, he said that the brothers’ own accounts of sexual assault were unreliable since they provided five different justifications for their murderous actions.

The judgment was deemed “abhorrent” by the Menendez family, who also said that he “discredited the trauma” that the brothers had gone through.

“Abuse is not a singular occurrence. They said that it keeps victims in vicious cycles of pain and terror, rewires the brain, and leaves permanent scars.

“To say it played no role in Erik and Lyle’s action is to ignore decades of psychological research and basic human understanding.”

According to the family, the legal system “continues to fail them now” has failed the brothers in the past, therefore fresh proof shouldn’t be required.

Lyle and Erik Menendez acknowledged that they used a shotgun to murder their parents, but they claimed that they were afraid of killing them because information about their father’s long-term abuse of Erik had been made public.
