Shah Rukh Khan reflects on how he did not have money after his parent’s untimely demise
SRK’s dad, Mir Taj Mohammed Khan, was an Indian independence activist and passed away because of cancer in 1981. His mom succumbed to Diabetes complications in 1991, way before he entered Hindi cinema. At the Global Freight Summit in Dubai, King Khan revealed that many things that happened in his life were need-based. He wanted to become a scientist but had no money. In the words of Shah Rukh:
“I had no money. I (initially) studied to be a scientist, then I went on to be an economist, then I learned mass communication. So I did my masters in all these things which, sometimes, may not be relatable to why would he become an actor after this.”

King Khan further revealed that when TV arrived in India, he was paid Rs.1,500, which was a lot of money for him. He took up the job, in the TV sector and started doing it. From there, the rest is history as one thing led to the other. He was merely 14 when he lost his father and 24 when his mom expired. He felt that losing one parent may be regarded as a misfortune; losing both looks like carelessness. Shah Rukh’s grief was not relieved as he had nowhere to go and was just left with his sister, Shehnaz Lalarukh Khan.
How Shah Rukh Khan never lost faith after the loss of his parents
Going further, the Pathaan star revealed that he knows his parents are there somewhere and that he will meet them someday. He thinks they are stars in the sky. The actor, who was 24, when he lost his parents, did not know how to sustain himself. However, his grit and determination made him rise from the ashes like a phoenix. SRK quipped:
“So I started working very hard, I became very determined to be successful because I didn’t want my parents to feel bad that they’ve not fended for me. So it’s a very strange way to look at things. But I knew they shouldn’t feel that way.”

Where there is a will, there is a way. The Jawan star decided to work very hard, earn money, and become so successful that his parents would not feel guilty about going away early. As fate had its way, their demise was avoidable. He worked hard for the sake of his three kids, Aryan, Suhana, and AbRam. He wanted their lives to be healthy, so he worked hard so that he could see his kids happy.
