A Frontier Airways flight certain for Tampa was diverted to Atlanta late Friday after a passenger within the cabin was seen with a field cutter.

The Frontier flight, which originated from Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Worldwide Airport, was diverted to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Worldwide Airport about 9:30 p.m. ET after there was a disturbance involving a disruptive passenger who was in possession of a field cutter, officers stated.

“The cockpit was safe and passengers have been deplaned” in Atlanta, Transportation Safety Administration spokesperson Patricia Mancha stated in an electronic mail to USA TODAY. 

The FBI and Atlanta Police Division responded and took the passenger, who has not been named, into custody, she stated. A second field cutter was discovered within the passenger’s carry-on baggage, Mancha stated.
