Bryce Dallas Howard spoke candidly on how she copes when a film fails to become a success or do well at the box office.
In a recent interview with The Independent, published on Sunday, June 7, the actress discussed her thoughts on success and failure in Hollywood, particularly in light of her last picture, Argylle, not performing well commercially.
“I’ve never been shocked when something doesn’t work,” said Howard, who has appeared in films ranging from Lady in the Water to Jurassic World.
“But I’m only an actor, and you’re there to fulfill the director’s vision. If a film does not come out the way you hoped, you can hardly be unhappy because it is not yours.
Howard’s reaction to box office performance contrasts sharply with that of her father, Oscar-winning filmmaker Ron Howard. She revealed that he is frequently more emotionally moved by a film’s performance.
“It blows him away that I don’t do that,” she told me.
Bryce began directing herself, having already directed episodes of The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, as well as the Apple TV+ documentary Dads. Looking ahead to her first narrative picture, she knows exactly how she wants to approach the process.
“I’m gonna want to work with a director of photography who’s really experienced, because I don’t want to be the most experienced person on a set,” she went on: “I really shouldn’t be.”
