Emma Hayes has invited 24 players to the next training camp for the U.S. women’s national team, and the most well-known athlete on the list is a welcome addition. After recuperating from a back ailment, Trinity Rodman makes his first appearance in the squad since the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Rodman helped the USWNT capture its first gold medal since the 2012 Games by scoring three goals and dishing up an assist.
During this timeframe, the United States will play two matches versus Brazil in a rematch for the Olympic gold medal. The first game is scheduled for Saturday, April 5 at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, while the second is scheduled for Tuesday, April 8 at PayPal Park in San Jose, California.
Adding a familiar face in Kansas City Current defender Alana Cook (who hasn’t played for the USWNT since October 2023) and Houston Dash defender Avery Patterson (who received her first-ever senior national team call-up), Hayes brought back 19 of the 23 players from the SheBelieves Cup roster.
Stars like Mallory Swanson, Rose Lavelle, and Naomi Girma are still absent from the group. Naturally, Sophia Wilson, who recently revealed that she is expecting her first child, will not be competing for the USWNT for some time. This camp also includes Lynn Biyendolo and Jenna Nighswonger.
“This roster has Olympians returning, less experienced players continuing to try to prove themselves, a few uncapped players and some players who have seen and done it all,” Hayes stated in a statement. “This tournament will be a lot of fun because of the mix of players and the two games against a powerful Brazil squad that we last saw in the gold medal game.
“Every player is aware that they must earn every starting position, every roster slot, and every minute they receive as a bench finisher. It’s an exciting process to work with individuals that want to consistently perform at an elite level so they can continue to receive call-ups and compete at this level, and these two games continue that process.”
