Kate Cassidy, Liam Payne’s girlfriend, is “still working on accepting the fact that he’s not here anymore” in her remarks on the singer’s passing.

The 31-year-old singer passed away in October of last year after plummeting from an Argentine hotel balcony.

Days before the British pop star’s death, Kate Cassidy traveled back to the United States when she was in Buenos Aires with Payne.

“It’s hard for me to refer to him in the past tense, and when I do refer to him in the past tense it almost stings that little bit more because… it just… it’s more official,” Cassidy said in an emotional interview with ITV host Lorraine Kelly.

Although the 25-year-old Cassidy said that she has occasionally found it difficult “to get out of bed in the morning,” she also noted, “I’m surrounded by such a great support system that I cannot thank enough.”

She said: “I genuinely believe Liam, in a way, guided me to this campaign and wanted me to be involved in this, and to help other people.” She also commended Kelly and ITV for starting a new mental health program.

He “was so open about his mental health,” according to American social media personality Cassidy, who is backing the campaign since “he no longer can help people.”

“I’m going through this healing path,” she said, “and sometimes getting out of bed in the morning is difficult for me and something I don’t want to do.

However, I have a commitment and a responsibility that I am practically bound by… There is nothing I can do. Whether it’s a five-minute or twenty-minute stroll in the morning, I have to get out of bed for my dog, Nala.

Cassidy declared that Payne was “the most humble, charming, normal person you could ever hope to come across, and genuinely one of the best people I’ve ever met in my life” before they started dating in 2022.

According to court records, Payne, a former member of One Direction, fell from the balcony of his third-floor apartment at the Casa Sur Hotel in Buenos Aires on October 16 at around 5:10 p.m.
