With only one week remaining, the winners of this year’s Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG), a significant Oscar predictor, have been announced.
Timothee Chalamet won best actor for his depiction of Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown, while Demi Moore continued her successful streak by winning best actress for her role in the body horror film The Substance.
Adrien Brody’s portrayal in the post-war epic The Brutalist likely only pushed it as the Oscar favorite prior to this, while it wasn’t a total surprise.
Chalamet, 29, and Moore, 62, may both be headed for their first Academy Awards now that the race is closest than it has been in years.
Conclave, a papal thriller, received the top film Oscar for outstanding ensemble after winning a BAFTA earlier this month.
The film, which stars Stanley Tucci, Isabella Rossellini, and Ralph Fiennes, chronicles the drama of the pope’s choosing process.
Rossellini stated during the occasion that the actors from the movie wished to wish Pope Francis “a quick recovery” while he is receiving treatment in the hospital for bronchitis and pneumonia.
Kieran Culkin and Zoe Saldana both extended their winning streaks with victories for their roles in A Real Pain and Emilia Perez, respectively, in the supporting categories, which were in line with 2025 awards season tradition.
“I aspire to be among the greats.”
The awards are given out as a celebration of performers honored by their peers and are chosen by SAG-AFTRA union members.
When his name was called for the best male actor award, Chalamet appeared noticeably taken aback.
In actuality, these five and a half years comprised my existence. On stage, he declared, “I gave it my all to play this unmatched artist, Mr. Bob Dylan, a true American hero.” “It was the honor of a lifetime playing him.”
“The truth is I’m really in pursuit of greatness,” he said, not hiding his aspirations. I want to be one of the greats, even though I realize that’s not how people often talk.”
The most impassioned political moment of the program was when 87-year-old actress and campaigner Fonda received a lifetime achievement award.
According to her, “We are in our documentary moment,” “This is it. It’s not a rehearsal, either.
She went on to say that being “woke” simply implies that you care about other people.
