Aaron Finch feels Australia should omit Marnus Labuschagne for the World Test Championship final against South Africa at Lord’s in June because his lean run has become too long to accept.

Following the excellent debuts of Sam Konstas, Beau Webster, and Josh Inglis, Australia has some difficult selection decisions for the final, resulting in a struggle for batting positions.

Travis Head, who opened in Sri Lanka, said he expects Konstas to return to the top of the order against South Africa, while Cameron Green is set to play as a specialist batter while recovering from back surgery that sidelined him this season.

It puts Labuschagne, who has one century in his previous 51 Test innings and an average of 31.54 since the start of 2023, under serious pressure to retain his position for the first time since distinguishing himself in 2019.

“I went with Cameron Green or Josh Inglis. “They’re at No. 3,” Finch remarked on ESPN’s Around The Wicket when asked to select their XIs for the World Cup final.

“And the reason is that I believe [Labuschagne’s form] is such a problem because it has spanned four series. If it’s more than two or three, I believe you may say, “You know what? He’s right around the corner.” But the fact that it’s been four is a huge red flag for me.

“Josh Inglis, I believe he will be given an opportunity to join the team. If Cameron Green is healthy, he adds so much to both the bowling and hitting lineups. He has the capacity to bat anywhere in the lineup.”

“I hope they pick him for the Test Championship [final],” Clarke told the crowd. “It’s a whole different situation versus a different team.
