It is more than just an election for Sandeep Dikshit, who is aiming to end Arvind Kejriwal’s hopes of ruling Delhi for a third term. Congress Party’s Sandeep Dikshit and Aam Aadmi Party’s Arvind Kejriwal have indulged in a war of words since the beginning of their election campaign. From slamming Kejriwal for giving freebies to lure voters to calling him a ‘Nikamma MLA’, Sandeep Dikshit has left no stone unturned in targetting Kejriwal from all angles. The start of this political rivalry dates back to the 2013 Delhi Assembly Elections that ended the Congress Party’s reign in the nation’s capital.
For the uninitiated, Sandeep Dikshit is the son of Delhi’s former Chief Minister, Sheila Diskhit, who was Delhi’s CM for a period of 15 years. The late iconic politician is the longest-serving Chief Minister of Delhi and also the longest-serving female CM of any Indian state. The reign that started back in 1998 ended in 2013 after Aam Aadmi Party’s Arvind Kejriwal beat Sheila Dikshit in the Delhi Assembly Elections in the New Delhi constituency.

After defeating Sheila Dikshit in the Delhi Assembly Elections 2013, Arvind Kejriwal became the second youngest Chief Minister of Delhi at the age of 45. Now, after over a decade, Sheila Dikshit’s son, Sandeep Dikshit, aims to end Kejriwal’s reign just like the latter ended his mother’s dominance in Delhi. Ahead of the elections, Sandeep Dikshit was asked whether he has a personal or political enmity with Arvind Kejriwal. In response to this, Sandeep clearly stated that he doesn’t hate Kejriwal personally. He said:
“Ha yeh sach hain ki unhone meri maa ko chunav haraya. Harane wala vyakti hamesha yaad rehta hain. Lekin agar aap yeh keh rahe hain ki main unse nafrat karta hoon ya vyaktigat dwesh rakhta hoon toh esa nahin hain.”
