Being the mask’s love interest once more won’t bother Cameron Diaz.
The actress, who just made her acting comeback after a ten-year break with Netflix’s Back in Action, told Access Hollywood that she might be amenable to a follow-up to the 1994 comedy The Mask—as long as Jim Carrey is in it.
Regarding the prospect of playing nightclub singer Tina Carlyle again, Diaz remarked, “If Jim’s on board, I mean, I’ve been riding those coattails from day one.”
In the original version of The Mask, Carrey played Stanley Ipkis, a bank teller whose life changes after he finds a mask that has the spirit of a supernatural trickster.
In the past, Carrey has indicated interest in a possible sequel, but he told Comicbook.com that a compelling story would be necessary to get his attention.
Carrey, who most recently played Doctor Robotnik again in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, stated, “Oh my god, you know, it has to be the right idea.”
“I suppose if someone had the perfect concept… The money isn’t the main factor,” he said. “I make jokes about the cash. However, I never know. These things are impossible to be certain about. I believe I was talking more about power-resting when I stated that I would prefer to retire. Because things just seem to change as soon as you get a great idea, or you find a team that you truly love working with, and so on.
