TV host Katie Piper has said that she decided to have an artificial eye 16 years after being partially blinded and suffering life-altering injuries in an acid assault.

The 41-year-old Loose Women panelist supports people who have suffered burns other disfigurement damage.

On Instagram, she posted a video of herself getting fitted for the prosthesis.

After years of fighting for my eye health, Piper stated: “I’ve decided to test a prosthetic eye shell because I’ve kind of reached the end of the road.

“With an amazing medical team at my side, this is the beginning of my quest to get an artificial eye.

“As usual, I want to express my sincere gratitude to everyone in the NHS and private healthcare systems for their generosity and skill.

“I will share my journey, I’m hopeful and nervous about being able to tolerate it and would love to hear from any of you in the comments if you’ve been on this journey or have any advice.”

Presenter Lisa Snowdon called Piper a “warrior” and a “true inspiration” in her comment on the page.
