According to his former national security adviser, Donald Trump aspires to “govern his own country in a similar fashion” to Vladimir Putin.

Fiona Hill told Sky News’ The World with Yalda Hakim that the US and Russian presidents both have the same vision of the world as being “divided up among three major powers; Russia, the US and China, with very clear spheres of influence”.

That the two presidents “have shockingly similar world views” was her statement.

“This is the first time we’ve had a US president who wants to emulate the Russian leader in some way, who wants to create a hyper-personalised presidency, who wants to basically govern his own country in a very similar fashion, very top down without any checks and balances,” she stated.

Mr. Trump wants to “regularise, normalize, and reset” the US-Russian relationship, Ms. Hill continued.

“He’s long wanted to meet with Vladimir Putin and resolve all of the problems in the two countries’ relationship, including nuclear concerns and nuclear armaments reduction. Trump and his close associates are also quite interested in a variety of business and economic agreements.
