However, the World Health Organization reports that the first illnesses were among university students – younger people with relatively modest symptoms.

“There is presently no evidence to suggest that symptoms related with omicron vary from those associated with other variations,” WHO stated in a statement issued on Sunday.

Despite the unknowns surrounding Omicron version, Fauci told Biden that “current vaccinations are expected to give a degree of protection against severe instances of COVID,” emphasising that booster doses in addition to complete immunisation will provide better protection.

According to White House COVID-19 Response Coordinator Jeff Zients, around 36% of Americans have received their booster doses.

Omicron variants have been discovered in a growing number of nations throughout the world.
