Timber planted too deep may cause what’s generally known as girdling roots. It could actually result in a tree’s decline and, sometimes, dying. One possibility, particularly for youthful bushes, is to replant. For older, established bushes, the soil across the trunk flare must be rigorously eliminated to reveal the basis collar.
