American actress Aimee Lou Wood, who gained fame for her performance in The White Lotus, has opened out about her earlier battles with self-esteem.
The 31-year-old actress said in an open interview that she used to “desexualize” herself in an attempt to conform to certain norms.
Aimee confessed that her “worst nightmare” was having to cope with body image issues or exposing any aspect of herself. But this issue was most acute when she made her on-camera debut as Aimee Gibbs on Sex Education, making it feel much more difficult.
“I remember feeling quite vulnerable after Sex Education,” she told The Sunday Times. I would have felt better if we had all removed our breasts. I felt as though I was the one who had committed the most bizarre acts.
“Getting my body out was my biggest fear when I was younger and struggling with my food issues. However, I had resolved that issue before returning to my cover-up.
I started to desexualize myself because of a lot of things, looking back. The actress said, “There are moments when all you want to do is dress up and act like a siren, but I denied myself that.”
