The Elks confirmed Ruby’s release on Tuesday, the final day of the team’s 10-day isolation period for Tier 1 players, coaches, and staff as a result of a COVID-19 epidemic among players.
The organization did not specify what Ruby did, but stated in a statement that the move was part of the club’s “ongoing commitment to carefully adhering to the CFL’s COVID standards.”
The organization said on Monday that before attending games at Commonwealth Stadium, football fans in Edmonton will be required to be completely vaccinated against COVID-19 or produce documentation of a negative test.
Ruby joined the Edmonton Oilers in 2017 after making his CFL debut with the Montreal Alouettes in 2015.
The Elks have been isolated since the emergence of COVID-19, which has infected 13 players. The Elks’ Aug. 26 game versus the Argonauts in Toronto was canceled due to the outbreak.
