With decades of history behind him, Sir Elton John intensifies his criticism of talent shows such as X-Factor.
In addition to expressing his distaste for such events, John, one of the greatest musicians of the 20th century, he discusses the detrimental effects they have on the music business.
The competition events were once described by the 78-year-old as “the worst thing that can happen to you in the music industry.”
In an interview with Capital Breakfast on Thursday, April 3, the renowned artist reiterated his assertion and went into additional detail about the matter.
The X-Factor ‘propels people into the spotlight before they are ready,’ according to the Circle of Life singer.
The I’m Still Standing crooner told Jordan North, Chris Stark, and Sian Welby, the hosts, that years of disappointment and hard work benefit musicians more than they hurt them.
John clarified that he and his old bandmate Bernie Taupin had to fight for years before they could ultimately succeed in the business, even though he claimed that the Sacrifice hitmaker was “so happy” that Lola Young had achieved success with her track Messy the previous year.
John informed North that he and his partner could only succeed if they went through the uncomfortable. He favored hard effort, consistency, and a lot of “near hits and a lot of near misses.”
