R Madhavan is one of the most versatile actors in the Indian film industry, and he is admired for his simplicity. From a middle-class background, the actor joined films in the last 90s and has never looked back. In his personal life, R Madhavan is married to Sarita Birje, and the couple have a son, Vedaant. The latter is a rising star in the swimming world and has made India proud on various international platforms. But, apart from his achievements, Vedaant is also a well-known star kid who gets a lot of attention. In a recent interview, R Madhavan shared how he has to often remind his son about his privileged life and its responsibilities.
R Madhavan reminds his son, Vedaant, about his ‘privileged life’ and the challenges associated with it
R Madhavan sat down for an interview with Miss Malini and shared that he often feels proud as a parent when people come to him praising his 19-year-old son, Vedant’s achievements. However, he also feels that the love for his son comes with a responsibility. For those unaware, Vedaant has an impressive record as a five-time gold medalist at the Malaysian Open and a gold and silver medalist at the Danish Open, among other achievements.
R Madhavan revealed that he often tries to explain to his son that, for good or bad, he will get some privileges as a star kid. He highlighted that the recognition comes with limitations for his son as he can’t be seen sleeping without his shirt or in a carefree manner like his other friends. Consequently, R Madhavan often warns Vedaant to be careful of his image because any irresponsible activity from his side will hit the headlines. In his words:
“You can’t be seen with your shirt off and sleeping in any bed because one photograph of you in that kind of a pose is national news. You can’t afford to be as footloose and fancy-free as the rest of your friends. You carry a burden of being recognised and being a model.”
R Madhavan expressed his disapproval of his son, Vedaant’s comparison to other starkids
Previously, in an interview with Ranveer Allahbadia, R Madhavan addressed the constant comparisons of his son, Vedaant, with other star kids in the film industry. He stated that he and his wife, Sarita Birje, don’t like it because they feel it’s unfair to judge or compare kids based on their parent’s status. Consequently, they don’t endorse or support it. Further, he admitted that his son, Vedaant, deserves recognition for his work. Still, he gets more attention from the media than other kids who have achieved similar or more success, which will always be there.
