Puneet Khurana the owner of popular Woodbox Cafe, died by suicide on December 31, 2024, at his home in Model Town’s Kalyan Vihar area. Puneet, 40, reportedly took the drastic step after he was harassed and given mental distress by his estranged wife, Manika Pahwa. Now, Puneet’s grieving mother has made an emotional plea demanding justice for her son.
Puneet Khurana’s mother reveals his wife, Manika Pahwa used to torture him
Puneet’s mother, during an interview with ANI, revealed that her son and Pahwa were fine for a year. However, after that there were frequent issues between the two of them. She even separated them at one point, thinking it would bring them happiness. Puneet’s mom cried profusely and said:
“But even then, she continued to torture my child. My son quietly endured it all. Sometimes it was about money, sometimes about their joint business, and other times family matters. Oh God, my child is gone. Please give justice to my son so his soul can find peace.”

Puneet’s mom also said that her son never spoke openly, not to his mother or father. He would think, of not burdening his parents with tension and kept wallowing his sorrow and pain silently. Puneet’s mom claimed that due to Manika he took his life.
Puneet Khurana’s wife, Manika Pahwa shared a cryptic note before he took the drastic step
Manika, a few days before Puneet took his life, took to her social media handle to pen a long post where she spoke on being subjected to “toxicity and narcissistic abuse”. She also wrote that she was free and that feminism suited her. The couple were the owners of Woodbox Cafe and were reportedly going through the divorce process. Khurana had also recorded a conversation where he and Manika were seen fighting over business-related matters. She did not take anyone’s name in the social media post but said that kindness, love, and respect needed to be extended to all. Her post read:
“Well feminism suits me, as idealistic values are my core & feminism means giving & getting mere respect. To one another. No slave treatment, and no stopping some girl to speak her mind (sic). Even a house help, guard, rikshawala, a tiny kid deserves respectful treatment. Once a coward fought with me that ‘respect has to be earned’. Ufff! What disgrace na? I disagree, respect has to be given to each and everyone. If not then you lost the respect baby. Phew! Maybe that’s why in India, we address people with ‘aap’, ‘bhaiya’, ‘didi’ to even strangers, isn’t it?”
Puneet Khurana’s family claims
Puneet’s family claimed that he had made a 59-minute-long video where he spoke about being harassed by his wife. He even claimed that Manika had hacked his social media account and she and her family had dared him to die by suicide as he could not do anything.. Puneet’s sister stated that when the first divorce notice was signed in court, it was stated that Puneet would handle For God’s Bakery, while the Woodbox Cafe was given to Manika.
