Police standoff with armed, barricaded lady on Fairfax county freeway

The Fairfax County Police Department on March 29, 2023 continued to negotiate with an armed woman who barricaded herself inside a car along Richmond highway. Police say the standoff began about a day earlier.

Police in Virginia continued negotiations on Wednesday morning with an armed, barricaded lady almost 24 hours after the standoff started alongside a Fairfax-area freeway freeway.

In accordance with the Fairfax County Police Division, the standoff started about 11 a.m. Tuesday when the girl barricaded herself inside a automobile.

“We’re nonetheless on scene of the barricade within the 7400 (block) of Richmond Hwy. A lady stays in a car armed with a handgun,” the division tweeted about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. “Richmond Hwy stays closed between Lockheed (Boulevard) and Boswell (Avenue).”

Disaster negotiators and particular operations division members proceed to work to peacefully resolve this barricade, the company reported.

Police spokesperson Lt. James Curry advised native outlet ABC7 a group of negotiators are in communication with the girl, who barricaded herself after a short police chase Tuesday morning.

It was not instantly identified why police had been pursing the girl.

“The aim right here is to have her come out peacefully and resolve this,” Curry advised the outlet.
