3 Houston cops shot, suspect in custody

Afterward, three Houston cops were shot. Police are now in an exchange of fire with a suspect. Police say that the officers have been taken to a hospital and are in a safe place. There aren’t any injuries that could kill you, Mayor Sylvester Turner said.

A video shows that the suspect crashed one car, and police say the suspect left the scene in another car.

The person is inside a house, Houston Police Officers’ Union President Douglas Griffith said. Authorities think the person has a lot of guns, Griffith said.

It was Griffith who said that the officers had been very lucky. In line with Griffith, each officer had a single gunshot wound. One was shot in the arm, one in the leg, and one in the foot.

The shooting comes four days after Cpl. Charles Galloway of Harris County Constable Precinct 5 was killed when he was shot at a stop sign. It was Wednesday nite when the suspect in that case was arrested in Mexico and came back to the Houston area from there.
CNN affiliate KTRK was the only one to get a video that shows the start of Thursday’s shootout. The station said the video came from a surveillance camera, and it shows a Dodge Charger crash because it tried to make a left turn and fell down. A police SUV comes to a stop behind the car, and one officer gets out and points a pistol at the car as the officer looks for cover.

There are two different officers who come out of another SUV and run to the main patrol car as shots are fired at a high rate. There appears to be a person inside the open driver’s door of the car that is the subject of the crime.

After a burst of gunfire, the officers run past the car in pursuit.

A group affairs consultant told CNN on the phone that they didn’t have any more information about how the shooting happened right away.

Stephen Hinson told CNN affiliate KHOU that he thought he heard “some kind of crash” before what he thought were 50 shots.

“I looked out my window and I saw the officers running, and I saw an officer right in front of my city home.”

Officials in Houston say that the area’s gun strike force is reacting to the killing.

My thoughts and prayers are with them. Turner said of the officers. “I will be at the hospital soon to check on their recovery, thank them for their service, and talk with their families,” Turner said of the officers. Please pray for the police officers who were shot and for every officer who works on the streets of Houston.

You can keep up with it as it grows.

When Rosa Flores was in Houston, Steve Almasy and Andy Rose were in Atlanta. They both wrote about their experiences in Houston for CNN. In this report, Raja Razek and Elizabeth Joseph helped write it.
