Reports state that a Russian plane carrying 49 people crashed, leaving no survivors.
According to regional governor Vasily Orlov, the plane was traveling from the city of Blagoveshchensk on the Russian-Chinese border to the isolated village of Tynda. It carried 43 passengers, including five children, and six crew members.
“All necessary forces and means have been deployed to search for the plane,” Mr. Orlov posted on Telegram.
According to news agency TASS, the disaster in the eastern Amur area was caused by a mistake made while landing in low visibility, and there were no survivors.
Unconfirmed footage from a helicopter that was shared on social media seemed to indicate that the jet had crashed in a heavily wooded region.
According to TASS, which cited a statement from the regional civil defense and fire safety center, it caught fire during its descent, and an aerial assessment of the scene revealed no survivors.
“According to the director of Tynda Airport, the plane caught fire upon impact, and a Mi-8 helicopter crew flying over the area reported no signs of survivors.”
