Ms. Bueckers stated on a video chat in March, just a few weeks before to the N.C.A.A., that she attributes some of her confidence to her faith. She had slept until 11 a.m. that morning, which was the Huskies’ rest day. Before the call, she went to a sauna and made 100 free throws.
Growing up outside of Minneapolis, Ms. Bueckers said her identity has been influenced by her family and her beliefs. Ms. Bueckers was mostly raised by her father when her parents, Bob Bueckers and Amy Dettbarn, split when she was a child. Her mother is Black, and she has three half-siblings, including a 12-year-old half-brother named Drew. Mr. Bueckers used a metaphor when he remarked, “Drew doesn’t leave her hip.”
Despite having been up Catholic, Ms. Bueckers currently attends a church that she described as nondenominational. She said that she has become more resolute because of her beliefs. “I’m confident that whatever choice I make will be the right one and that everything will work out as planned,” she stated.
Has Ms. Bueckers, who collaborates with stylist Brittany Hampton, chosen a style for the W.N.B.A. draft on Monday? Ms. Hampton stated that she actually intends to wear many outfits. According to the stylist, “her draft day is her opulence moment.” “It will definitely be power dressing.” Expect “liquid rhinestone cascades,” “embellishments,” and “bold elegance,” according to 36-year-old Ms. Hampton.
