Opinion | Migrant Busing Brings the Border Disaster to Sanctuary Cities

It was 6 a.m., and the buses from Texas had but to reach. However a handful of ambulances and policemen already waited on the road. An hour later, empty buses from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority would line as much as transport migrants throughout New York Metropolis. Volunteers unloaded packing containers into the makeshift “triage heart” contained in the foyer of the Port Authority bus terminal. Manuel Castro, Mayor Eric Adams’s commissioner for immigrant affairs, and Rep. Adriano Espaillat, whose district spans Higher Manhattan and a part of the Bronx, arrived earlier than 7. At round 8, 80 asylum-seeking migrants filed out of the 2 buses arriving from the Lone Star State, one despatched by Mr. Abbott from the border and one other by the town of El Paso. Messrs. Castro and Espaillat shook everybody’s hand, saying: “Bienvenidos a Nueva York.”

Since early August, Gov. Greg Abbott has been sending bus a great deal of asylum-seekers from the Texas border to sanctuary cities—New York, Chicago, Washington and different locations which have insurance policies discouraging native legislation enforcement from cooperating with federal authorities in implementing immigration legislation. This week Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis one-upped Mr. Abbott by sending a small aircraft stuffed with Venezuelan migrants to Martha’s Winery, Mass.
