For the uninitiated, Mukesh and Nita’s NMACC is also the home of India’s largest pichwai paintings. The opening evening was marked by the debut of The Great Indian Musical: Civilisation to Nation, a theatrical experience celebrating Indian drama, music, art, and dance by Feroz Abbas Khan, an iconic playwright and director.

The grand theatre inside the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) has a seating capacity of 2,000 seats across three levels. The cultural centre is also labelled as the ‘most technologically advanced theatre’ in India. As per some reports, it has more than 8,400 Swarovski crystals in its construction. Since its launch, productions of The Sound of Music and Mamma Mia! have been held at the cultural centre.

According to a report on NMACC’s official website, the world’s most loved musical, The Phantom of the Opera, is coming to India in 2025. The founder and chairperson of NMACC, Nita Ambani, stated in the official statement that as the second anniversary of NMACC is approaching, she is delighted to announce the arrival of the most loved theatrical marvel, The Phantom of the Opera.

The Phantom of Opera is based on the iconic novel, Le Fantome de L’Opera

According to the official website of Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC), The Phantom of Opera is going to run from March 5, 2025, to March 30, 2025, at The Grand Theatre. Talking about the show’s length is 2 hours and 30 minutes, which includes a 20-minute intermission. For the unversed, The Phantom of Opera is based on Gaston Leroux’s novel, Le Fantome de L’Opera.

If we talk about its plot in simple terms, the play tells the story of a mysterious masked figure who falls madly in love with a young soprano, Christine Daae. Most parts of The Phantom of Opera are fictional, but legends and true stories inspire some sequences. As per a New York Theatre Guide report, a tragic incident happened at the Paris Opera House in which a chandelier fell off, reportedly due to a ghostly presence.

Another quite famous story dates back to 1873 when a fire destroyed the Paris Opera’s old venue. According to the legend, a ballerina passed away in an unfortunate accident. Another rumour is that the ghost’s presence is a jilted old woman. There have been numerous rumours and stories related to the Phantom of the Opera, but there has been no official confirmation about it. It will be interesting to see how the Indian audience reacts to the magic of Phantom of Opera.
