The performance of a Grease dance medley and a live performance by UK singer Raye were key highlights of Millie Bobby Brown’s wedding last year.
The ceremony, though, was small and private, but the Stranger Things star later had a large event months after the marriage.
Speaking to Dish from the Waitrose podcast, Millie shares that she had quite a lot of time performing at her family gathering.
So when the moment of her wedding came, she said the dance there must have a choreographed sequence.
“I grew up doing so many dance routines at my, you know, at pretty much any family gathering,” the star says, adding the idea behind her first dance with her husband, Jake Bongiovi, is to make it special.
She continues, “So when Jake proposed, I was like: ‘We have to learn a dance routine. We’ll remember it forever, and when the song comes on when we’re 80, we’re gonna remember the dance. Like it’s just gonna be so special for us.’”
For dance, Millie says she first thought of doing Dirty Dancing but quickly dropped this idea. “So I got us dance lessons, and originally we were gonna do Dirty Dancing, and I was like, ‘Oh my God, if you get that lift wrong, it’s too much’.”
Instead, the 20-year-old opted for the Grease dance—a form of dance that was popular in the 1980s.
“So we did a Grease medley of songs; it was probably like a six-minute dance. People were like, ‘Oh my God, you can tell she’s an actor.'”
“We did a six-minute choreographed routine,” she continues. “I can’t believe Jake actually did it. We did a Grease medley, so it started with ‘You’re the One That I Want,’ it went into ‘Summer Nights,’ it went into ‘We Stick Together.’ We dressed as, like, Sandy and Danny, but it was epic.”
Millie credits her husband for outshining himself on the dance floor, noting, “We did not miss one beat. I do not regret that one bit. It was like we put on a show. He also is an actor, so we just loved being able to do that for everyone and perform.”
But the fun at the wedding did not end there, as soon after the dancing sequence, Raye’s emotional live performance took place.
It is worth noting that Millie and Jake tied the knot in secrecy, given only their loved ones knew about it before the couple made it public.
