A man who spent nearly 50 years on Mississippi’s execution row was put to death.

In a brutal ransom plot, Richard Gerald Jordan abducted and murdered Edwina Marter, a stay-at-home mother and banker’s wife.

At 6:16 p.m. local time (12:16 a.m. UK time) on Wednesday, the 79-year-old Vietnam War veteran, who suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder, was fatally injected.

Jordan, the Mississippi death row inmate with the longest sentence, had sued the state, claiming that its three-drug execution procedure was cruel.

“First, I would like to thank everyone for a humane way of doing this,” he remarked when he was given the chance to make a final comment. I would want to express my regret to the victim’s family.

Jordan’s attorney, Krissy Nobile, and his wife, Marsha, were present for the execution and repeatedly wiped their eyes.

He prayed for their forgiveness and thanked them both before saying, “I will see you on the other side, all of you.”

Charles, Mrs. Marter’s husband, and her two boys were not there.
