Renowned Malayalam film and television actor, Dileep Shankar was found dead in his hotel room in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday. The news has sent shockwaves across the Malayalam entertainment industry, leaving his co-stars and fans devastated.
Dileep Shankar was found dead in the hotel room after he did not come out for two days
Dileep was in the city for the shooting of the popular television serial, Panchagni, and had checked into a private hotel near Vanross Junction. However, when he failed to answer calls or step out of his room for two consecutive days, concerns arose surrounding his safety. On Sunday, December 29, 2024, curious hotel staff opened the actor’s room to find his lifeless body. Based on the strong odour emanating from the room, it was clear that the actor had been dead for several hours.
According to initial reports, there were no signs of foul play. Tablets for liver disease and empty liquor bottles were also reportedly found by the police in the room. The exact cause of death is yet to be determined following a detailed post-mortem examination.

Dileep Shankar was a celebrated actor, popular for his performances in hit television serials such as Ammayariyathe, Sundari, and Panchagni. His roles in critically acclaimed films, such as North 24 Kaatham and Chaappa Kurishu further cemented his reputation as a versatile actor in Mollywood.
Dileep’s director hinted at the actor’s health struggles
Director, Manoj, who was working with Dileep on Panchagni, revealed that the actor had been battling some health concerns, and was undergoing treatment. He added that the cast was on a two-day break from filming, during which he and his colleagues had tried contacting him via phone multiple times but the actor failed to respond to them. Manoj said:
“There was a two-day break in shooting, and during this time, none of us could reach him. It’s heartbreaking,”
Dileep’s fans and colleagues alike have taken to their social media handles to express their grief and share memories of the late actor. Actor, Seema G Nair shared a poignant tribute on social media that read:
“You called me five days ago, and I couldn’t talk because I had a headache. Now I hear this terrible news from a journalist. What happened to you, Dileep? Why did this happen? I don’t know what to say. Rest in peace.”
