Jason Momoa is really eager about his new position in the DC Universe.
When it was revealed that Gunn and Peter Safran had assumed control of DC Studios as co-chairmen and co-CEOs, the 45-year-old Aquaman star didn’t mince words. Rather, he sent Gunn a straightforward text that said, “F—ing LOBO.”
On March 10, the anniversary of the antihero Lobo’s debut in DC Comics, Gunn, 58, posted the humorous discussion on his X account.
“On the anniversary of Lobo, I can’t help but think of a text I received from Jason Momoa on the morning it was announced Peter & I were the heads of DC Studios—the day Jason & I first discussed him joining the DCU as Lobo,” Gunn said.
Craig Gillespie’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will include Momoa in her first role as the notorious interplanetary bounty hunter.
“I’ve loved watching Jason bring him to life & can’t wait to share that with all of you,” Gunn said, hinting that he has enjoyed seeing the actor inhabit the part.
In the 1980s, Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen invented Lobo, a Czarnian who smoked cigars, rode a motorbike, and enjoyed causing mayhem.
Momoa even shared a picture of a 2023 Fandango interview back in December, in which he referred to Lobo as “the perfect role” and stated that he was all onboard if DC ever approached him. His Instagram caption when they did was succinct and to the point: “They called.”
Emily Beecham, David Krumholtz, Eve Ridley, Matthias Schoenaerts, and Milly Alcock, who plays Supergirl, will all appear with Momoa.
Based on the comic novel by Tom King and Bilquis Evely, the movie is a part of Gunn and Safran’s DC Universe relaunch, which will begin in July 2025 with Superman (played by David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan).
Momoa, on the other hand, has been prepared for this. And his Lobo is going to be as crazy as fans have been waiting for, if his excitement is any indication.
