Perhaps in preparation for an Emmy, Hilary Swank is making room on her trophy rack.
Fans (as well as the Television Academy) are giddy about the two-time Oscar winner’s unexpected presence in Yellowjackets, which launched her into the Emmy debate.
Swank’s stunning performance as adult Melissa in the horror-thriller series that streams on Paramount+ has earned her a nomination in the Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series category.
And you already understand why that submission makes perfect sense if you’ve watched her March 28 premiere, which was in episode eight of the third season.
The main shock showed that Melissa, who had been thought to be dead for a long time, is actually still alive. Not only is she alive, but she is living a whole different life under a new name, complete with a family that is completely unaware of her troubled history.
In one of the most dramatic performances of the season, Melissa’s reunion with adult Shauna (played by Melanie Lynskey) swiftly devolves into a heated and emotional confrontation.
In addition to appearing in the season’s last two episodes, Swank’s episode will be her official Emmy submission. The drama is far from done, then.
Swank, who is well-known for her powerful roles in the movies Boys Don’t Cry (1999) and Million Dollar Baby (2004), hardly ever appears on television.
She last made a big impression on television in 2018 when she starred in FX’s Trust. In 2020, she starred in Netflix’s science fiction thriller Away. However, nothing can match the dramatic impact she makes in her role as Yellowjackets.
Her casting was expertly maintained a secret by Paramount+, Showtime, and the show’s creative team, making her unveiling one of the season’s best-kept secrets and a significant fandom moment.
Hilary Swank is a master at making an impression, regardless of whether she wins the Emmy.
